Hello October: Cozy Adventures for Scouts and Families
October is here. The air is crisp, the pumpkins are ready to be picked, and fall adventures are calling. This is the season for making memories, whether you’re leading scouts, organizing a pack outing, or planning cozy fun with your family.
Fall Adventures Worth Celebrating
October is full of traditions that bring people together. From hayrides through golden fields to afternoons spent apple picking, these simple joys remind us how special the season can be. Corn mazes, pumpkin patches, and campfire nights all become instant memories that scouts and families look back on for years.
Last year our troop visited a local apple orchard where the girls went on a hayride, picked apples, snacked on cider and donuts, and finished the day with the petting zoo and playground. It was an absolute blast. We also made “Boo Bags” as part of a Boo it Forward project, where each girl created a bag of treats and small goodies to secretly deliver to a neighbor’s porch. It was a fun way to spread kindness and a little spooky cheer. We’ll be highlighting this project in an upcoming post.
This year our scouts are heading out on a fall hike. Along the way they’ll refresh their compass skills, pause to enjoy the colorful foliage, and even paint watercolors inspired by the scenery. This is the inspiration behind our Happy Little Hike patch. Our school community also hosts a trunk-or-treat, and our troop sets up a table each year so the kids can enjoy another festive fall tradition together.
Cozy Ideas Closer to Home
Fall doesn’t always mean packing up for a big outing. Sometimes the magic is right at home:
-
Baking pumpkin muffins or caramel apples
-
Crafting with leaves and pinecones
-
Hosting a backyard firepit with cocoa and s’mores
-
Taking a family walk through crunchy leaves in the neighborhood
These smaller traditions carry just as much meaning and give kids that same sense of seasonal wonder.
Every Spark Begins a Story
At Kindred Sparks, we believe that every spark begins a story, and fall is one of the best times to create them. Scouts, packs, families, and leaders all have unique ways of marking the season. Sharing these moments builds connection and inspires others to try something new.
